April 2012 Mission

Guy Drouin and the Mayor BEH members Current state Future land Barrier material Meeting with Youri Latortue Haitian parliament

1 - Official meetings

Meeting with the town hall of Gonaïves and its mayor Jean Osner on April 30, 2012. He seems to support the project but has not given firm support. Former Director Mr. Kessler was present and justified the position of the former administration. Mathieu Gamba, representing AFD, criticizes the BEH project for two things: The role of the town hall in Bioenergy and the profitability of the project: the figures proposed are questioned. Meeting with Gonaïves MP Sadrac Dieudonné on May 2, 2012. Meeting with the Canadian Embassy on May 2, 2012. We expect clear support from them. Meeting with Gonaïves senator Youri Latortue on May 3, 2012.

2 - Visit to the future landfill

We visited the land proposed at Hatte Rocher. The land has an area of 50 tiles. Jean-Pierre Franzidis carried out a technical survey of the terrain with a GPS. Soil samples were taken from the surrounding hills. Due to their unstable (friable) structure, they can be used as daily covering materials. The Estrella company, located on the Gros-Morne road, was visited. Jean-Pierre Franzidis analyzed samples of large gravel which have an ideal structure to serve as a support around the gas sensors. A first meeting with a surveyor took place.

3 - Incorporation of Bioenergy Haiti

BEH members met again on May 1, 2012. All members are well motivated to do their part. Despite stagnation in the process of incorporating Bioenergy-Haiti, there was a meeting with the lawyer, Me Guy Latortue. We await confirmation of his fees. A meeting with a surveyor (his name?) Took place. The latter requires approximately $ 5,000 to complete the work. He provided us with a list of tasks to be carried out. The town hall has issued us a temporary operating permit. However, this is not enough to open a bank account.

4 - Waste collection

A discussion about a preliminary waste collection during the first two years took place. An estimated budget of approximately $ 500,000 for two years. This possibility needs to be better assessed because this waste, when the infrastructure is non-existent, can cause several problems. We have to think of solutions.
